Description

32mm (1¼”) Brass Screw Cup Castor

The 32mm (1¼”) Brass Screw Cup Castor is a traditional solid brass furniture castor designed to fix directly into a suitable wooden furniture leg or foot using a central woodscrew.

Unlike a conventional cup castor that is secured around the outside of the leg with several screws, this version is held in position by the central screw fixing.

With a 32mm wheel and an overall height of approximately 70mm, it is suitable for upholstered furniture, wooden furniture feet and restoration work where this particular fixing method is required.

Typical applications include:

  • Armchairs
  • Upholstered chairs
  • Sofas and settees
  • Footstools
  • Wooden furniture feet
  • Occasional furniture
  • Furniture restoration
  • Replacement furniture castors
  • New furniture manufacture

For other sizes and fixing styles, browse the complete Brass Castors range.

Central Screw Fixing for Wooden Furniture Legs

The main difference with this castor is the central woodscrew fixing.

The castor is positioned against the bottom of the wooden furniture leg or foot and the central screw is driven into the timber to secure it.

This makes it particularly useful where:

  • The furniture already uses a screw-cup style castor
  • A central fixing is preferred
  • There is sufficient sound timber to accept the screw
  • A plate-mounted castor is unsuitable
  • A socket fitting is not required
  • A traditional visible brass castor suits the furniture

When replacing an existing castor, it is always best to match the original fixing style wherever possible.

32mm Brass Screw Cup Castor Dimensions

The key measurements are approximately:

  • Wheel diameter: 32mm (1¼”)
  • Overall height: 70mm
  • Fixing: central woodscrew
  • Mounting surface: suitable wooden furniture leg or foot

The live product is specifically designed to screw directly into the furniture leg or wooden foot.

Before ordering, check the existing castor and make sure the timber is suitable for a secure screw fixing.

How Does a Screw Cup Castor Fit?

The castor is positioned on the bottom of the wooden furniture leg or foot and secured using the central woodscrew.

Before fitting:

  • Check that the timber is sound
  • Make sure the end of the leg is flat enough for the castor to sit correctly
  • Mark the centre point accurately
  • Use a suitable pilot hole if required
  • Avoid splitting the timber
  • Make sure the castor is pulled firmly into position
  • Check that all castors sit evenly once fitted

If the existing screw hole is badly worn or enlarged, simply driving a new screw into the same damaged hole may not give a secure fixing.

Repair the timber first where necessary.

If you’re unsure whether this is the correct fitting for your furniture, contact Livedale before ordering.

Choosing the Correct Furniture Castor

The fixing method is just as important as the wheel size.

Screw Cup Castors

This product uses a central screw to secure the castor directly into the furniture leg.

It is the appropriate choice where the furniture already uses this type of fixing or where the construction is suitable for a central woodscrew.

Standard Cup Castors

If the castor needs to fit around the outside of the furniture leg and be secured with several screws, see the 32mm (1¼”) Brass Cup Castor.

For a smaller version, see the 25mm (1″) Brass Cup Castor.

Screw Plate Castors

If the castor needs to mount against a flat underside using a plate, see the 32mm (1¼”) Brass Screw Plate Castor.

A smaller 25mm (1″) Brass Screw Plate Castor is also available.

Grip Neck Castors

If the furniture uses a stem and socket instead of a screw fixing, see the 32mm (1¼”) Brass Grip Neck Castor.

The smaller 25mm (1″) Brass Grip Neck Castor is also available.

Square Cup Castors

For suitable square or block-style furniture legs, see the Brass Square Cup Castor.

Screw Cup or Screw Plate Castor?

These two products can be confused because both use screws, but the fixing method is different.

A screw cup castor uses a central screw driven into the furniture leg.

A screw plate castor uses a plate secured to the underside of the furniture with several screws.

Choose based on the furniture construction and the original fitting, not just on the wheel diameter.

If the furniture has a flat underside suitable for a plate, the 32mm Brass Screw Plate Castor may be the better option.

Brass Castor Finishes & Wheel Options

The 32mm Brass Screw Cup Castor is available in several decorative finishes and wheel combinations, including:

  • Antique

Measure Before Ordering

Before replacing a furniture castor, check:

  • Wheel diameter
  • Overall castor height
  • Existing fixing method
  • Screw position
  • Available timber depth
  • Condition of the furniture leg
  • Whether the original fitting uses a central screw, plate, cup or socket

For workshop measuring equipment, browse Rulers & Tape Measures.

A 32mm wheel does not automatically mean a 32mm castor will fit — the fixing underneath is what usually causes the expensive surprise.
