Description
25mm (1″) Brass Cup Castor
The 25mm (1″) Brass Cup Castor is a traditional solid brass furniture castor designed to fit over the bottom of a suitable wooden furniture leg.
Combining a practical furniture wheel with a decorative visible cup, it is particularly suitable for chairs, armchairs, sofas, settees, footstools and traditional furniture restoration where the castor forms part of the finished appearance.
The castor has a 25mm diameter wheel, an approximate overall height of 55mm, and an internally tapered cup measuring approximately 25mm at the top and 20mm at the base.
It is secured directly to the furniture leg using three screws.

Traditional Brass Castors for Furniture
Cup castors are commonly used where the bottom of the furniture leg remains visible.
The brass cup fits around the end of the leg, giving the furniture a more traditional appearance than a castor fitted entirely underneath the frame.
Suitable applications include:
- Traditional armchairs
- Upholstered chairs
- Sofas and settees
- Footstools
- Occasional furniture
- Period-style furniture
- Furniture restoration
- Reproduction furniture
- Wooden furniture legs

25mm Brass Cup Castor Dimensions
Please check the furniture leg carefully before ordering.
- Wheel diameter: 25mm (1″)
- Approximate overall height: 55mm
- Internal cup diameter at top: 25mm
- Internal cup diameter at base: approximately 20mm
- Cup: internally tapered
- Fixing: 3 screws
The cup is not straight-sided. It tapers internally from approximately 25mm to 20mm, so both the diameter and shape of the furniture leg need to be considered.
Choosing the Correct Furniture Castor
When replacing an existing castor, the fixing type is just as important as the wheel size.
Round Cup Castors
This product is intended for a suitable round or tapered furniture leg.
If you require a larger cup, see the 32mm (1¼”) Brass Cup Castor.
Square Cup Castors
For square or block-style furniture legs, consider the Brass Square Cup Castor instead.
A 25mm round cup and 25mm square cup are not interchangeable simply because the nominal measurements are the same.
Grip Neck Castors
Grip neck castors use a stem and socket rather than a cup fitting.
See the 25mm (1″) Brass Grip Neck Castor or the larger 32mm (1¼”) Brass Grip Neck Castor.
Screw Plate Castors
Screw plate castors mount to the underside of the furniture using a fixing plate.
See the 25mm (1″) Brass Screw Plate Castor or 32mm (1¼”) Brass Screw Plate Castor.
Screw Cup Castors
Where the furniture requires a different cup-style fixing, see the 32mm (1¼”) Brass Screw Cup Castor.
If you are unsure which fixing is already fitted to the furniture, contact Livedale before ordering.
How to Fit a Brass Cup Castor
The cup sits over the end of a suitably sized wooden furniture leg.
Once positioned correctly, the castor is fixed through the cup using three screws.
Before installation, check that:
- The furniture leg is suitable for a cup castor
- The leg fits correctly within the tapered cup
- There is sufficient sound timber for the screws
- The leg is not split or badly damaged
- The castor sits squarely on the furniture
When replacing existing castors, measure the original fitting wherever possible rather than choosing a replacement purely by appearance.
Brass Castor Finishes
The 25mm Brass Cup Castor is available in a choice of decorative finishes to suit different furniture styles.
Options include:
- Antique
- Antique Brown Ceramic Wheel
- Antique White Ceramic Wheel
- Black Nickel
- Brass
- Chrome
- Dull Nickel
Where the castor will remain visible, consider the finish alongside other exposed furniture fittings such as handles, decorative nails and metal trim.
Decorative & Specialist Brass Castors
For more traditional or decorative furniture, Livedale also stocks specialist castor styles.
The Brass Claw Castor provides a more ornate appearance for traditional and antique-style furniture.
The Brass Box Castor offers another traditional fitting style for suitable furniture restoration and manufacturing applications.
For furniture requiring floor protection rather than a moving castor, see the 50mm (2″) Round Brass Coaster.

Measure Before Ordering
Furniture castors can look remarkably similar while having completely different fittings.
Before ordering, check:
- Furniture leg diameter
- Leg shape
- Existing cup dimensions
- Wheel diameter
- Overall castor height
- Existing fixing method
- Stem or socket dimensions where applicable
- Fixing plate dimensions where applicable
For workshop measuring equipment, browse our Rulers & Tape Measures range.
A couple of minutes spent measuring is generally preferable to discovering that four new castors are beautifully made, beautifully finished — and don’t fit.
