Description
50mm (2″) Round Brass Coaster
The 50mm (2″) Round Brass Coaster is a solid brass furniture floor protector designed to sit beneath a castor wheel, helping to reduce unwanted furniture movement and protect the floor beneath.
These decorative coasters are particularly useful beneath traditional chairs, armchairs, sofas, footstools and other furniture fitted with visible castors.
They can be used directly on carpet or, for wooden and laminate flooring, combined with a suitable felt pad beneath the coaster for additional floor protection.
For traditional furniture castors to use alongside them, browse the complete Brass Castors range.
What Does a Brass Castor Coaster Do?
Unlike a furniture castor, the coaster itself does not move.
The castor wheel sits inside the coaster, creating a more stable contact point between the furniture and the floor.
This can help:
- Reduce unwanted movement
- Keep chairs and sofas more securely positioned
- Protect carpets from concentrated castor pressure
- Provide a neat decorative finish beneath traditional furniture
- Protect hard flooring when used with a suitable felt backing
This makes brass coasters particularly useful where furniture still needs traditional decorative castors but doesn’t need to roll freely around the room.
50mm Brass Coaster Size
The coaster has a nominal diameter of:
- 50mm (2″)
Before ordering, check the size and shape of the furniture castor wheel that will sit inside the coaster.
The coaster needs to provide a stable seating point for the wheel rather than simply being chosen because it looks approximately the right size.
Brass Castor Coasters for Carpet
On carpet, the brass coaster can be positioned directly beneath the castor wheel.
The wider contact area helps spread the point of contact beneath the castor and can help prevent the furniture from moving as readily.
They are particularly suitable beneath:
- Armchairs
- Sofas
- Traditional chairs
- Footstools
- Occasional furniture
- Restored period furniture
Using Brass Coasters on Wood or Laminate Floors
For wooden, laminate and other hard flooring, Livedale recommends adding a felt pad beneath the coaster.
Our Self Adhesive Felt Pads are available in 25mm and 50mm sizes and provide a simple way of adding a softer protective layer between furniture fittings and hard flooring.
For other floor-protection options, browse Felt & Nail Glides or the wider Furniture Glides range.
Castor Coaster or Furniture Glide?
Although both can help protect flooring, they perform different jobs.
A castor coaster sits beneath an existing furniture castor and helps hold the castor in position.
A furniture glide is normally fitted directly to the furniture leg or frame instead of using a moving castor.
If you want to retain the appearance of traditional brass castors but reduce movement, this brass coaster is the more appropriate option.
If the furniture doesn’t need castors at all, browse the Furniture Glides range for felt, nail, plastic and other floor-protection fittings.
Choosing a Castor to Use with a Brass Coaster
Livedale stocks several traditional brass castor styles, depending on how the castor attaches to the furniture.
Cup Castors
25mm (1″) Brass Cup Castor and 32mm (1¼”) Brass Cup Castor fit around suitable wooden furniture legs.
Grip Neck Castors
25mm (1″) Brass Grip Neck Castor and 32mm (1¼”) Brass Grip Neck Castor use a stem-and-socket fitting.
Screw Plate Castors
25mm (1″) Brass Screw Plate Castor and 32mm (1¼”) Brass Screw Plate Castor mount directly beneath suitable furniture using a fixing plate.
Screw Cup Castors
The 32mm (1¼”) Brass Screw Cup Castor uses a central woodscrew fixing.
The correct castor should always be selected according to the furniture fixing first; the coaster is then used beneath the wheel where floor protection or reduced movement is required.
Brass Coaster Finishes
The 50mm Round Brass Coaster is currently available in:
- Antique
- Black Nickel
- Brass
- Chrome
- Dull Nickel
This makes it possible to coordinate the coaster with the finish of the castor and other visible furniture fittings.
I would also change the WooCommerce variation label from “Colour” to “Finish” on this product. These are metal finishes rather than simply colours.
