Traditional Mahogany-Finish Footstool

The dark mahogany finish provides a more traditional appearance than the Cream Premier frame while avoiding the need to stain or finish the timber before upholstery.

It is particularly suited to:

  • Traditional upholstered furniture
  • Matching footstools for sofas and armchairs
  • Classic interior schemes
  • Professional upholstery projects
  • Furniture manufacture
  • Furniture refurbishment
  • Bespoke domestic furniture
  • Small upholstered ottomans

The visible timber can be coordinated with darker wooden furniture, traditional upholstery fabrics and existing mahogany-style furniture finishes.

Premier or Standard Footstool Frame?

The Premier frame measures 500mm × 335mm, providing a larger upholstered top than the Standard 460mm × 300mm footstool frame.

Choose the Premier frame where:

  • A larger upholstered top is required
  • A more substantial footstool is preferred
  • The 500mm × 335mm frame suits the available space
  • The footstool needs to complement larger seating

For a more compact stool in the same dark finish, see the Mahogany Standard Stool 460mm × 300mm.

Mahogany, Cream or Raw Premier Footstool?

The Premier frame is available in different finishes to suit the furniture and upholstery project.

Mahogany Premier Stool

The Mahogany Premier Stool provides a ready-finished dark wood appearance suitable for traditional furniture and interiors.

Cream Premier Stool

The Cream Premier Stool 500mm × 335mm provides the same Premier frame size with a lighter cream finish.

Raw Premier Stool

The Raw Premier Stool 500mm × 335mm is supplied unfinished, making it suitable where the timber needs to be stained, painted or finished to match existing furniture.

Supplied with 3″ Upholstery Foam

A 3″ foam pad is supplied with the Mahogany Premier frame, providing the main cushioning layer for the upholstered top.

Additional upholstery materials may include:

  • Polyester wadding
  • Upholstery fabric or vinyl
  • Base cloth
  • Upholstery staples
  • Spray adhesive
  • Decorative trim or piping

Browse Polyester Wadding for fibre wrap that can be fitted over the foam to soften the edges and create a fuller upholstered profile.

For the finished covering, browse Vinyl & Fabric.

Adding Polyester Wadding

Polyester wadding can be fitted over the supplied foam before the final upholstery covering is applied.

It can help:

  • Soften the foam edges
  • Create a fuller upholstered appearance
  • Reduce hard lines beneath the fabric
  • Improve the transition around corners
  • Produce a smoother finished profile

For a general-purpose upholstery option, see 27″ Wide 135g (4½oz) Fibre Cushion Wrap.

Upholstering the Premier Footstool

The ready-made frame and supplied foam provide the main structure for the finished footstool.

A typical upholstery process may include:

  1. Assemble and check the wooden frame.
  2. Position the supplied foam.
  3. Add polyester wadding where required.
  4. Measure and cut the upholstery covering.
  5. Position the fabric evenly over the foam and frame.
  6. Secure the covering to the timber.
  7. Finish the corners neatly.
  8. Fit suitable base cloth underneath.
  9. Check that the completed stool sits level and secure.

For suitable fastening materials, browse Staples & Tacks.

For specialist fitting equipment, browse Upholstery Tools.

Finishing the Underside

Once the upholstery has been completed, the underside can be finished with a suitable furniture base cloth.

Black Dipryl / Corovin provides a neat covering beneath upholstered furniture and helps give the completed footstool a clean professional finish.

Suitable upholstery staples can be used to secure the fabric, wadding and base cloth to the timber frame.

71/10 Staples are available for use with compatible 71 Series upholstery staple guns.

Where required, Livedale Heavy Duty Spray Adhesive 500ml can be used for suitable foam and wadding applications.

Choosing Upholstery Fabric for a Mahogany Frame

The darker timber finish works particularly well where the wooden frame remains visible beneath the upholstered top.

When choosing the covering, consider:

  • Fabric colour and pattern
  • Furniture style
  • Intended use
  • Abrasion resistance
  • Cleaning requirements
  • Fabric thickness
  • Whether piping or decorative trim will be used
  • How the fabric complements the mahogany finish

Browse Vinyl & Fabric for upholstery covering options.

Looking for a More Decorative Footstool?

For a shaped traditional leg style, consider the Raw Queen Anne Footstool 460mm × 300mm.

The Queen Anne design provides a more decorative traditional appearance where the leg shape is intended to form a prominent part of the completed footstool.

For the complete selection, browse Footstool Frames.

Check Before Ordering

Before ordering, check:

  • 500mm × 335mm frame size
  • Required finished footstool height
  • Available floor space
  • Premier or Standard frame size
  • Mahogany finish suitability
  • Upholstery fabric or vinyl required
  • Whether additional wadding is needed
  • Finished upholstery thickness

The 500mm × 335mm measurement refers to the wooden frame. Foam, wadding and upholstery covering will increase the finished dimensions.
