The Kenrick 50mm Shepherd Castors Square Plate Fitting are genuine UK-manufactured all-metal furniture castors designed for sofas, armchairs, footstools and other upholstered furniture requiring a square screw-mounted plate fixing.
With a 50mm wheel and a load-bearing capacity of up to 300kg per set of four, they provide a strong and dependable furniture castor for both replacement work and new furniture manufacture.

Square Plate Furniture Castor
The defining feature of this version is the square fixing plate.
Rather than pushing into a socket or screwing into a threaded insert, the castor mounts directly to a suitable flat area beneath the furniture using screws through the fixing plate.

How to Fit a Square Plate Castor
The square fixing plate sits flat against the underside of the furniture and is secured using suitable screws.
Before fitting:
- Check that the mounting surface is flat
- Make sure the timber is sound
- Position the plate squarely
- Mark the fixing holes
- Use suitable pilot holes where required
- Avoid fixing too close to the edge of the timber
- Check that screws will not interfere with springs, webbing or other furniture components
- Make sure all four castors sit evenly once fitted
Where existing screw holes have become enlarged or damaged, repair the timber before fitting the replacement castor.
Handed Kenrick Shepherd Castors
Kenrick Shepherd castors are handed, so each castor needs to be installed in the correct position on the furniture.
When replacing an existing set, note the position and orientation of the old castors before removing them.
Correct positioning allows the Shepherd castor arrangement to operate as intended once the furniture is back in use.

The 50mm Kenrick Shepherd is available with several different fixing systems.
