Replacement Feather Sofa Back Cushions

Our made to measure feather back cushions are designed for replacing flat, sagging or tired back cushion interiors in sofas, chairs and armchairs. They are ideal for removable sofa back cushions, chair back cushions, armchair back cushions, where a soft, relaxed feather feel is preferred.

If your sofa back cushions have gone flat, hollow, lumpy or misshapen, replacement feather cushion interiors can help restore fullness, comfort and a traditional plumped appearance without replacing the whole sofa or chair.

Feather back cushions give a softer, more relaxed feel than foam. They are a traditional choice for customers who want natural movement, comfort and that classic dressed cushion look.

Made to Measure Feather Back Cushion Interiors

Each feather back cushion interior is quoted and made to order based on the size, shape and filling required. This makes them suitable for replacing existing feather sofa back cushions, feather chair back cushions and feather armchair back cushions where the original filling has become tired, flat or uncomfortable.

We can supply replacement feather back cushion inners for square, rectangular, tapered, curved and shaped cushion covers.

These made to measure feather back cushions are suitable for:

Sofa back cushions
Chair back cushions
Armchair back cushions
Loose back cushions
Scatter back cushions
Traditional upholstery back cushions
Replacement feather cushion interiors
Domestic upholstery projects
Furniture restoration work

Replacing Flat or Sagging Sofa Back Cushions

Sofa back cushions can lose their shape over time, especially where they are used every day. Feather back cushion interiors can flatten, spread, collapse or become uneven, leaving the sofa looking tired and less comfortable.

Replacing the feather back cushion interior can help restore the cushion’s fullness and appearance while keeping the original cushion covers.

This is often a practical option when the sofa fabric is still in good condition but the back cushions no longer look or feel as they should.

Feather Chair and Armchair Back Cushion Replacements

Feather back cushions are also suitable for chairs and armchairs where the original back cushion has gone flat, hollow or soft.

They are commonly used for armchair back cushions, fireside chair back cushions, occasional chair cushions, loose upholstery backs and traditional furniture restoration projects.

Feather gives a soft, relaxed and naturally comfortable feel. It is not as firm or structured as foam, but it gives the classic plumped appearance many customers expect from traditional upholstered furniture.

European Duck Feather Back Cushions

European duck feather is a traditional natural filling with good body, weight and comfort. It gives a soft, full cushion with natural movement and a relaxed finish.

Duck feather back cushions are a popular choice for customers replacing existing feather sofa back cushions or restoring traditional chair and armchair cushions.

They are best suited to customers who like a softer, more classic upholstered feel rather than a firm, fixed cushion shape.

Duck Feather and Down Back Cushions

Duck feather and down back cushions offer a softer and more luxurious feel. The added down helps create a lighter, fuller and more comfortable cushion interior.

Duck feather and down is ideal where a softer, fuller and more premium traditional cushion feel is required.

This option is often chosen for higher-comfort sofa back cushions, armchair back cushions and traditional loose upholstery cushions where the customer wants a soft, plump and relaxed finish.

Feather Back Cushions vs Fibre Back Cushions

Feather and fibre back cushions behave differently.

Feather back cushions are softer, heavier and more traditional. They give natural movement, a relaxed appearance and a plumped look, but they need regular dressing and plumping.

Fibre back cushions are lighter and often give a fuller, springier appearance. Fibre may be more suitable where a feather-free option or lighter cushion filling is preferred.

Feather is the better choice when you want a traditional, soft and naturally comfortable back cushion with weight, movement and a relaxed upholstered finish.

Feather Back Cushions vs Foam Back Cushions

Feather back cushions are much softer and more relaxed than foam. They are ideal where comfort and a traditional appearance are more important than firm support.

Foam back cushions hold their shape better and require less day-to-day maintenance. Foam may be more suitable where a firmer, more structured back cushion is required.

Feather is the right choice if you want a softer back cushion with a natural, lived-in comfort and a traditional plumped finish.

How to Measure for Replacement Feather Back Cushions

For the best result, please measure the empty cushion cover rather than the old feather cushion interior. Old feather cushions can flatten, spread or distort over time, so measuring the old inner may give inaccurate sizing.

Step 1: Remove the Old Cushion Interior

Take the old feather, fibre or foam interior out of the back cushion cover.

Step 2: Measure the Cushion Width

Measure the empty cushion cover from seam to seam across the widest point.

Step 3: Measure the Cushion Height

Measure from the bottom seam to the top seam of the empty back cushion cover.

Step 4: Measure the Cushion Border

If the cushion cover has a boxed edge, measure the border panel from seam to seam. This helps us calculate the correct amount of filling needed.

Please note, the border measurement is not always the final visible depth of a feather cushion. Feather cushions are filled to create a plumper shape and will usually sit fuller once filled and dressed.

Step 5: Check the Cushion Shape

Common feather back cushion shapes include square cushions, rectangular cushions, tapered back cushions, curved back cushions and cushions with rounded corners.

For unusual or complex shapes, please send a clear photo of the empty cushion cover. We may ask for a paper template.

Important Care Information About Feather Back Cushions

Feather back cushions are naturally soft, comfortable and traditional, but they are not a fit-and-forget filling. They need regular plumping, turning and dressing to help keep the feather evenly distributed and the cushion looking full.

Over time, feather will naturally settle with use. Regular care helps maintain comfort, shape and appearance.

Feather is the right choice if you want a relaxed, softer back cushion with natural movement and a traditional upholstered feel.

For customers who prefer a lighter feather-free option, fibre back cushions may be more suitable. For customers who prefer a firmer cushion that holds a sharper shape, foam back cushions may be a better choice.
