Dual Layer Foam Seat Pads & Stool Tops
These dual layer foam seat pads combine a dense 6lb reconstituted foam base with a blue upholstery foam topper to provide firm underlying support with additional comfort at the seating surface.
The recon foam creates the strong supporting foundation, while the blue topper provides a softer upper layer. This makes the combination particularly suitable for stool tops, footstools, compact chair seats and other upholstery applications where support and durability are important.
6lb Recon Foam for Firm Support
The lower section is made from 6lb reconstituted foam, commonly known as recon foam.
Reconstituted foam is manufactured from compressed polyurethane foam and is considerably firmer and denser than conventional upholstery foam. It is commonly used where strong support and resistance to compression are required.
The recon base helps provide:
- Strong underlying support
- Excellent shape retention
- Resistance to repeated compression
- A stable base for the softer topper
- A firm seating foundation
Blue Foam Comfort Topper
A blue upholstery foam layer sits above the recon base to provide additional surface comfort.
Two topper thicknesses are available:
½” Blue Foam Topper
The ½” topper adds a modest comfort layer while retaining a noticeably firm overall seating feel.
1″ Blue Foam Topper
The 1″ topper provides a deeper comfort layer while maintaining the firm support of the recon foam underneath.
This layered construction allows the support and comfort functions of the seat pad to be separated, rather than relying on a single foam grade to provide both.
Round & Square Foam Seat Pads
These seat pads are available in both round and square options, with sizes ranging from 12″ to 18″.

Choose Your Foam Thickness
The 6lb recon base is available in several depths and can be combined with either topper thickness.
Available constructions include:
- 2″ recon + ½” topper
- 2″ recon + 1″ topper
- 2½” recon + ½” topper
- 2½” recon + 1″ topper
- 3″ recon + ½” topper
- 3″ recon + 1″ topper
The correct option will depend on the furniture construction, required finished seat height and preferred level of surface cushioning.
When replacing an existing seat pad, measure both the width or diameter and required finished depth before ordering.
Dual Layer Foam or Standard Upholstery Foam?
A conventional foam seat generally uses a single foam grade to provide both support and comfort.
These pads use two different layers.
The 6lb recon foam base provides the majority of the structural support, while the blue foam topper creates a more comfortable seating surface.
This construction is particularly useful for stools and compact seating where a strong, firm foundation is required but sitting directly on recon foam would be unnecessarily hard.

Add Polyester Wadding for a Fuller Finish
For a softer, fuller upholstered appearance, the foam can be wrapped with Polyester Wadding.
Polyester wadding helps soften the edges of the foam, fills the upholstery cover more evenly and creates a smoother finished cushion.
The wadding should be glued to the foam using Livedale Heavy Duty Spray Adhesive.
Using adhesive keeps the wrap securely positioned, prevents it shifting or bunching during cover fitting and helps achieve a smooth, consistent finished cushion.
Stockinette for Easier Cover Fitting
Where the foam is being inserted into a removable or close-fitting cover, Stockinette can be fitted around the finished foam interior.
Stockinette reduces friction between the foam and upholstery fabric, making the cushion easier to insert into the cover and helping keep any wadding underneath correctly positioned.
