Standard or Premier Footstool Frame?
The main difference between the Standard and Premier stools is the frame size and overall proportions.
Standard Footstool Frame
Choose the Standard Stool where:
- A compact 460mm × 300mm frame is required
- The available floor space is limited
- A smaller upholstered footstool is preferred
- The Standard proportions suit the furniture it will accompany
Premier Footstool Frame
For a larger option, see the Cream Premier Stool 500mm × 335mm.
The Premier version provides a larger 500mm × 335mm frame, making it better suited where a more substantial upholstered footstool is required.
Cream, Mahogany or Raw Standard Footstool?
The Standard frame is available in different finishes to suit the furniture and upholstery project.
Cream Standard Stool
The Cream Standard Stool provides a light, ready-finished frame that requires no additional staining or painting before upholstery.
Mahogany Standard Stool
The Mahogany Standard Stool 460mm × 300mm provides the same Standard frame size with a darker traditional furniture finish.
Raw Standard Stool
The Raw Standard Stool 460mm × 300mm is supplied unfinished, making it suitable where the timber needs to be stained, painted or finished to match existing furniture.
Supplied with 3″ Upholstery Foam
A 3″ foam pad is supplied with the frame, providing the main cushioning layer for the upholstered top.
Additional materials may include:
- Polyester wadding
- Upholstery fabric or vinyl
- Base cloth
- Upholstery staples
- Spray adhesive
- Decorative trim or piping
Browse Polyester Wadding for fibre wrap that can be added over the foam to soften the edges and create a fuller upholstered profile.
For the outer covering, browse Vinyl & Fabric.
Adding Wadding Over the Foam
Polyester wadding can be fitted over the supplied foam before the final upholstery covering is applied.
Adding wadding can help:
- Soften the foam edges
- Create a fuller upholstered appearance
- Reduce hard lines beneath the fabric
- Provide a smoother transition around corners and edges
Browse the complete Polyester Wadding range for suitable upholstery options.
Upholstering the Standard Footstool
The frame and supplied foam provide the basis for creating a finished upholstered footstool.
A typical upholstery process may include:
- Assemble and check the wooden frame.
- Position the supplied foam.
- Add polyester wadding where required.
- Measure and cut the upholstery covering.
- Position the fabric evenly over the foam and frame.
- Secure the covering to the timber.
- Finish the corners neatly.
- Fit suitable base cloth underneath.
- Check that the completed stool sits level and secure.
For fastening materials, browse Staples & Tacks.
For specialist equipment, browse Upholstery Tools.
Finishing the Underside
Once the main upholstery work is complete, the underside of the stool can be finished with suitable furniture base cloth.
Black Dipryl / Corovin provides a neat covering beneath upholstered furniture and helps produce a clean finished appearance.
Suitable upholstery staples can be used to secure the fabric, wadding and base cloth to the timber frame.
Standard Stool or Queen Anne Footstool?
For a more decorative traditional leg style, consider the Raw Queen Anne Footstool 460mm × 300mm.
Both use a 460mm × 300mm frame, but the Queen Anne version has shaped traditional legs that become a more prominent part of the finished furniture.
Choose the Cream Standard Stool where a simpler cream-finished frame is preferred.
Choose the Queen Anne Footstool where a more decorative traditional leg style suits the furniture.
Choosing Upholstery Fabric
The cream wooden finish can be combined with a wide range of upholstery fabrics, vinyls and colour schemes.
When selecting the covering, consider:
- Colour and pattern
- Intended use
- Abrasion resistance
- Cleaning requirements
- Fabric thickness
- Whether piping or decorative trim will be added
- How the covering complements the visible cream timber
Browse Vinyl & Fabric for upholstery covering options.
