Description
27″ Wide 85g Polyester Wadding for Light Cushion Wrapping
This 27″ wide 85g (2½oz) polyester wadding fibre cushion wrap provides a light layer of softness around upholstery foam without adding the bulk of heavier wadding.
With approximately 10mm loft, it is the lightest polyester fibre wrap in the Livedale range and is particularly useful where only subtle padding, edge softening or a smoother finish beneath upholstery fabric is required.
Often referred to as Dacron, polyester cushion wrap or foam wrap, it can be used for cushion making, furniture refurbishment, headboards, chair pads and a wide variety of general upholstery work.

What Is 2½oz Polyester Wadding Used For?
85g (2½oz) polyester wadding is designed to add a thin, soft layer over foam or upholstery surfaces where a heavy build-up is not required.
The foam provides the support and structure, while the polyester wadding helps soften the surface and reduce the hard, square appearance that bare foam can create beneath fabric.
Typical applications include:
- Light sofa and chair cushion wrapping
- Dining chair pads
- Small seat cushions
- Headboards
- Upholstered wall and furniture panels
- Arms and backs
- Footstools
- Caravan and campervan upholstery
- Boat and marine seating
- Furniture repairs and restoration
- General soft furnishing work
Why Choose 85g 2½oz Cushion Wrap?
Adds Softness Without Excessive Bulk
At approximately 10mm loft, 2½oz polyester wadding provides a subtle layer of padding.
This makes it particularly useful where a thicker fibre wrap could make a cushion too tight inside its existing cover.
Softens Foam Edges
Cut upholstery foam can have clearly defined edges and corners.
A light layer of polyester wadding helps soften these edges beneath the fabric and creates a smoother transition between the foam and cushion cover.
Useful Beneath Upholstery Fabric
Lightweight polyester wadding is not limited to loose cushions. It can also be used beneath fabric on headboards, chair backs, furniture panels, arms and other upholstered surfaces where a small amount of softness is required.
Suitable for New and Replacement Upholstery
Use 2½oz wadding when making new cushions or when replacing tired or flattened padding around existing upholstery foam.
For new cushion interiors, start with correctly selected Foam Cut to Size and add the fibre wrap as the softer finishing layer.
Bond Dacron Wadding Securely to the Foam
Polyester wadding should be securely bonded to the foam using Livedale Heavy Duty Spray Adhesive.
Although 2½oz Dacron is lightweight, leaving it loose can allow the fibre to move as the foam is pushed into its cushion cover. This can cause wrinkles, folded areas or uneven padding beneath the finished fabric.
Bonding the wadding in position helps:
- Keep the fibre evenly positioned around the foam
- Prevent movement during cover fitting
- Reduce folding, creasing and bunching
- Maintain an even layer around corners and edges
- Create a smoother finished cushion
- Make the wrapped foam easier to handle
Apply the spray adhesive in accordance with the product instructions and position the polyester wadding carefully over the foam.
The aim is to hold the fibre securely in position while retaining its soft loft.
Is 2½oz Polyester Wadding the Right Weight?
2½oz is the lightest option in the Livedale polyester wadding range.
Choose it when you want a subtle softening layer rather than a noticeably plumped or heavily padded cushion.
As a general guide:
- 2½oz provides light padding and subtle edge softening
- 4½oz is a useful general-purpose cushion wrap
- 8oz provides greater loft and a fuller finish
- 10½oz provides heavier cushion wrapping and generous padding
- 14oz provides maximum loft and the fullest finish
If your cushion cover is already quite close-fitting, the lower bulk of 2½oz wadding can make it a particularly useful option.
For deeper cushions or where a much fuller, rounded appearance is required, choose one of the heavier weights in the Polyester Wadding range.
Why Choose 27″ Wide Polyester Wadding?
The 27″ width is well suited to smaller cushion interiors, dining chair pads, narrow furniture panels and upholstery projects where a wider roll would create unnecessary waste.
For larger cushions, bench seating and wider upholstery work, 36″ and 54″ versions of 85g (2½oz) polyester wadding are also available.
Choosing a roll width close to the size of the project can reduce cutting time and material waste.
Using Polyester Wadding with Foam and Stockinette
For replacement cushions, the different layers each perform a specific job.
Start with Foam Cut to Size for the supportive cushion core.
Bond the polyester wadding securely around the foam using Livedale Heavy Duty Spray Adhesive.
Once wrapped, Stockinette can be fitted over the cushion interior to help contain the fibre and make the finished cushion easier to slide into its cover.
A typical cushion construction is:
Foam core → spray adhesive → polyester wadding → stockinette → cushion cover
The foam provides support, the polyester wadding provides surface softness and the stockinette helps with fitting and handling.
Lightweight Polyester Wadding for Upholstery
85g polyester wadding is suitable for professional upholstery workshops, furniture manufacturers, repairers and customers carrying out their own furniture or cushion refurbishment.
Its light 2½oz construction makes it particularly useful for applications where softness is required without significantly increasing the overall thickness of the upholstery.
