Versatile Medium-Firm Upholstery Foam
RX33/160 is one of the more versatile grades within the Livedale foam range.
Its medium-firm feel allows it to be used across a broad range of upholstery applications where a balance between comfort and support is required.
This makes it particularly useful for professional workshops that need a foam capable of covering several different types of work rather than being restricted to one specialist application.
RX33/160 is suitable for both domestic furniture and contract upholstery, including seating, backs, furniture padding and general refurbishment work.
RX33/160 for Seat Cushions & Dining Chair Pads
RX33/160 can be used for medium-firm seat cushions where a supportive but not excessively hard feel is required.
It is particularly useful for:
- Dining chair seat pads
- Occasional chairs
- Fixed seating
- Upholstered benches
- Furniture seat platforms
- Medium-firm cushion applications
When making removable cushions, wrapping the finished foam in Polyester Wadding can soften the edges of the foam, add loft and create a fuller appearance beneath the upholstery cover.
A Roll of Stockinette can then be fitted over the foam or wadding-wrapped cushion to reduce friction and help the cushion slide more easily into a close-fitting cover.
The final feel of a cushion will depend on its dimensions, thickness, construction and the requirements of the person using it.
If you are unsure whether RX33/160 is appropriate for a particular seating application, please contact Livedale before ordering.
RX33/160 for Contract Upholstery
RX33/160 is widely used within contract and commercial upholstery.
Its versatility makes it suitable for furniture manufacturers and professional upholsterers working across a range of fixed and removable upholstered components.
Applications include:
- Fixed backs
- Fluted backs
- Seat platforms
- Arm wraps
- Inside backs
- Dining seating
- Fixed commercial seating
- General furniture padding
For workshops handling regular contract work, complete sheets can be cut and shaped as required for different furniture components.
Where foam needs to be bonded to another foam layer or a suitable furniture component, Livedale Heavy Duty Spray Adhesive 500ml is a useful addition to the workshop order.
Foam for Fixed & Fluted Backs
RX33/160 can also be used for fixed and fluted furniture backs.
The foam provides padding and support beneath upholstery fabric while remaining versatile enough for a variety of furniture designs.
This makes it useful for:
- Sofa backs
- Chair backs
- Fluted upholstery
- Upholstered dining furniture
- Fixed furniture panels
- Contract furniture
Where a substantially softer back is required, another grade from our Foam Sheets range may provide a more suitable feel.
RX33/160 for Caravan, Campervan & Motorhome Cushions
RX33/160 is also popular for caravan, campervan and motorhome cushions, where the same cushions may need to provide both seating comfort and occasional sleeping support.
Typical applications include:
- Caravan seat cushions
- Caravan back cushions
- Motorhome seating
- Campervan cushions
- Rock ‘n’ roll beds
- Conversion seating
- Multi-purpose seating and sleeping cushions
For finished foam pieces manufactured to your measurements, use our Foam Cut to Size service rather than purchasing a complete sheet for cutting yourself.
For removable caravan, campervan and motorhome cushions, Polyester Wadding and Roll Stockinette can also be used when a softer, fuller cushion finish and easier cover fitting are required.
If you are replacing an existing caravan or motorhome cushion and are unsure which grade or thickness to use, please contact Livedale for advice.
RX33/160 for Boat & Marine Seating
The versatile characteristics of RX33/160 also make it suitable for certain boat and marine seating applications.
It can be used for interior boat seating, berth cushions and other upholstered marine furniture where conventional polyurethane upholstery foam is appropriate.
Where cushions will regularly become wet or require rapid drainage, a specialist open-cell foam may be more suitable. Browse our complete Foam Sheets range or contact Livedale if you need help choosing the correct material.
Medium-Firm Foam for Mattresses
RX33/160 can also be used for medium-firm foam mattresses and occasional sleeping applications.
Its versatility makes it useful for:
- Caravan mattresses
- Campervan mattresses
- Motorhome sleeping areas
- Boat berths
- Folding or occasional mattresses
- Custom sleeping platforms
Comfort is subjective, particularly when foam is being used for sleeping, so mattress thickness and the required level of firmness should always be considered before ordering.
RX33/160 as a Comfort Layer Over Reconstituted Foam
RX33/160 is commonly used as a comfort layer over a firmer reconstituted foam base.
This type of layered construction allows the dense recon foam underneath to provide firm support while the RX33/160 upper layer provides a more comfortable seating surface.
This can be particularly useful for:
- Contract seating
- Banquette seating
- Fixed commercial seating
- Bar and restaurant seating
- Heavy-use upholstery
- Specialist seating constructions
For the supporting base layer, see our Reconstituted Foam Sheet, available in different densities for upholstery, commercial and manufacturing applications.
When constructing a layered foam interior, Livedale Heavy Duty Spray Adhesive 500ml can be used where suitable to bond the foam layers together.
The correct combination of grades and thicknesses will depend on the application. If you are unsure how to build a layered foam construction, please contact Livedale before ordering.
Complete Your Cushion or Upholstery Project
Customers purchasing RX33/160 Foam Sheets may also need the following upholstery materials to complete the job:
Polyester Wadding – used over foam cushions to soften the edges, add loft and create a smoother, fuller appearance beneath the upholstery cover.
Roll Stockinette – a stretchy cushion wrapping material that helps foam and wadding-wrapped cushion interiors slide more easily into fitted covers.
Reconstituted Foam Sheet – a much firmer foam that can be used beneath RX33/160 where a supportive layered upholstery construction is required.
Livedale Heavy Duty Spray Adhesive 500ml – useful for suitable foam bonding, layered foam constructions and a wide range of professional upholstery work.
