Description

60mm Black Screw-In Plastic Glides

The 60mm Black Screw-In Plastic Glide is a larger furniture glide designed for sofas, ottomans, stools, bed bases and other furniture using a compatible M8 threaded fixing.

The broad 60mm plastic base creates a larger contact area beneath the furniture while retaining the simplicity of a removable screw-in fitting. It provides a practical alternative where furniture does not require the additional height of a conventional foot or the movement provided by a castor.

Available individually or in boxes of 320, it is suitable for individual furniture repairs as well as regular manufacturing and trade use.

For other sizes and fixing methods, browse the complete Plastic Furniture Glides range.

Larger 60mm Furniture Glide

The 60mm diameter is the main point of difference between this product and the smaller 25mm screw-in glide.

The wider base provides a broader contact point beneath the furniture, making it useful where a small glide would not suit the size or design of the furniture frame.

Typical applications include:

  • Sofas and settees
  • Ottomans
  • Stools
  • Bed bases
  • Upholstered furniture
  • Larger furniture frames
  • Contract furniture
  • Furniture manufacture
  • Replacement and repair work

Livedale’s Plastic Furniture Glides range includes screw-in, knock-in and mushroom-style glides, allowing the fitting method and contact area to be matched to the furniture.

M8 Screw-In Furniture Glide

This product uses an M8 threaded screw-in fitting.

The threaded stem screws into a compatible M8 insert or mounting point within the furniture frame, allowing the glide to be fitted securely while remaining removable for replacement or repair.

Screw-in glides are particularly useful where:

  • The furniture already has a threaded insert
  • A replaceable glide is required
  • Furniture does not need to roll
  • A low-profile fitting is preferred
  • A broad plastic contact surface is suitable
  • Furniture may need to be dismantled or repaired later

For other threaded furniture components, browse T Nuts, D Nuts & Furniture Fixings.

Check the M8 Thread Before Ordering

The fixing thread is just as important as the 60mm glide diameter.

An M8 fitting requires a compatible M8 threaded fixing. Livedale stocks both M8 and M10 furniture components, and the two sizes are not interchangeable.

Before ordering, check:

  • Existing thread size
  • Thread condition
  • Existing furniture fixing
  • Available mounting area
  • 60mm glide diameter
  • Furniture height
  • Floor surface
  • Quantity required

Do not force the glide into a threaded fitting if it does not engage smoothly.

If you’re unsure which fitting is required, contact Livedale before ordering.

M8 T Nuts & Furniture Fixings

Where a new threaded mounting point is required in a suitable timber furniture frame, M8 T Nuts provide a compatible internal M8 thread.

Livedale’s M8 T Nut has an internal M8 thread and four prongs which grip suitable timber, creating an anchor point for compatible furniture legs, feet and glides.

Other options are available in the T Nuts, D Nuts & Furniture Fixings range, including:

  • M8 T Nuts
  • M8 D Nuts
  • M8 three-point fixing nuts
  • M8 angled furniture-leg brackets
  • M8 wood-to-metal dowel screws

The correct fixing depends on the furniture construction and how the threaded anchor needs to be installed.

25mm or 60mm Screw-In Plastic Glide?

Livedale offers screw-in plastic furniture glides in both 25mm and 60mm sizes.

Choose this 60mm version where:

  • A broader furniture contact area is required
  • The existing glide is approximately 60mm
  • The furniture frame suits a larger glide
  • The furniture is larger or heavier in appearance
  • A wide, low-profile base is preferred

For a more compact option, see the 25mm Black Screw-In Plastic Glide.

The 25mm version uses the same general M8 screw-in principle but provides a much smaller contact point. The live 25mm product also confirms an M8 screw-in fitting.

The correct size should be selected according to the furniture rather than automatically choosing the largest glide.

Screw-In or Knock-In Plastic Glide?

The fixing method should be checked before comparing glide diameters.

Screw-In Glide

Choose this 60mm glide where the furniture has a compatible M8 threaded mounting point.

The threaded fitting allows the glide to be installed and removed without using a knock-in stem.

Knock-In Glide

For furniture designed around a knock-in fitting, see the 30mm Black Knock-In Plastic Glide or 40mm Black Knock-In Plastic Glide.

Livedale distinguishes screw-in glides from knock-in versions according to how the fitting attaches to the furniture frame.

A knock-in glide should not be substituted for an M8 screw-in glide simply because the visible plastic base looks similar.

60mm Screw-In Glide or Mushroom Glide?

For furniture requiring an even broader or taller glide arrangement, the mushroom products provide another option.

The Black Mushroom Glides & Sockets are approximately 65mm diameter and 50mm high, providing a larger mushroom-shaped furniture support.

Choose the 60mm Screw-In Glide where:

  • An M8 threaded fitting is required
  • A relatively low-profile glide is preferred
  • The furniture already has a compatible threaded mounting point

Choose a Mushroom Glide where:

  • A taller furniture support is required
  • A broader mushroom-shaped base is preferred
  • The furniture is designed for the appropriate glide and socket arrangement

For a more decorative finish, see Chrome Mushroom Glides & Sockets.

Plastic Glide or Wooden Furniture Foot?

The 60mm Black Screw-In Glide is primarily a functional furniture fitting.

Where appearance or furniture styling is more important, a conventional furniture foot may provide a better solution.

Browse Wooden Furniture Feet & Legs for alternative sofa, chair, stool and upholstered furniture feet.

A wooden foot will usually change the finished furniture height considerably more than a low-profile glide, so measure carefully before changing from one fitting style to another.

Plastic Glide or Furniture Castor?

A glide and a castor serve different purposes.

Choose the 60mm plastic glide where the furniture needs a stable floor contact and does not need to roll.

Choose a castor where easy movement is required.

For furniture using an M8 threaded mounting point, the Kenrick 50mm Shepherd Castors M8 Fitting provides a threaded furniture castor alternative.

Changing from a glide to a castor will affect the finished furniture height and how the furniture moves, so the two should be considered alternative furniture configurations rather than direct equivalents.

Browse the complete Furniture Castors range for other options.

Plastic Glides & Floor Protection

Plastic furniture glides provide a durable contact point between the furniture and floor.

Livedale’s wider glide guidance recommends considering:

  • Furniture type
  • Fixing method
  • Floor surface
  • Frequency of movement
  • Existing glide dimensions

Plastic glides can help reduce direct contact between the furniture frame and floor, while also allowing furniture to move more easily.

For more delicate wooden, laminate or similar hard floors, consider whether a softer felt surface would be more appropriate.

Browse Felt & Nail Glides for felt nail glides and self-adhesive felt floor-protection options.

Each or Box of 320

The 60mm Black Screw-In Plastic Glide is available:

  • Each
  • Box of 320

This allows the same fitting to be purchased for an individual furniture repair or in larger quantities for regular professional use.

The box quantity is particularly relevant for:

  • Sofa manufacturers
  • Bed manufacturers
  • Upholstery workshops
  • Furniture repair businesses
  • Contract furniture suppliers
  • Furniture manufacturers
  • Trade customers carrying common replacement fittings

Check Before Ordering

Before ordering, check:

  • 60mm glide diameter
  • M8 threaded fixing
  • Existing threaded insert
  • Thread condition
  • Furniture-frame construction
  • Required furniture height
  • Floor surface
  • Quantity required

The key specification on this product is the combination of a large 60mm glide and M8 screw-in fixing.

A similar-looking knock-in or socket-mounted glide will not necessarily fit the same furniture.

If you’re unsure which glide or fixing is suitable, contact Livedale before ordering.
